Outrigger enthusiasts gathered in Avila Beach today for the annual Pineapple Express races. Over 30 clubs were represented with 111 outrigger teams from all over California competing for various prizes. The event has become a major draw for local businesses and a source of colorful entertainment for beachgoers.

Non-profit club Pale Kai of Avila Beach hosted the event. Pale Kai belongs to SCORA, the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association, and participates in races throughout the state.
